Inside was a woman from around 168 BC that was remarkably well preserved, with traces of blood still in her veins. We still don’t know exactly how it was done, but it’s a surprising contrast to one of the most well-known methods of mummification. By comparison, Egyptian mummification is a very specific process of embalming. Both methods have taught us so much about a world long past, from the diets to the diseases that plagued ancient cultures. The difference? We actually know its acid, magnesium, and mercury. We just don't know if it was an intentional "secret recipe" or a wild accident caused by groundwater mixing with her own body fluids! Either way, science still can't replicate it and if it did it would take 2000 years to know/check if it worked the same way .
