I mean, you have to be serious and not pretend there is no forced labor happening with Uyghurs. Many European countries still use products linked to Uyghur forced labor in China, and China allows it. And even if you don’t want to call it genocide, I see many Chinese online making anti-Uyghur images and even praising what is happening to them. https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/news/world/2020/03/01/uyghurs-forced-labour-aspi https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/dec/06/substantial-volume-of-clothing-tied-to-uyghur-forced-labour-entering-eu-says-study-china Even if Xinjiang was conquered by China around 100 BC, does that automatically make it historical Chinese territory? That same logic could be used elsewhere, like in Palestine. Even if Jews lived there before, Palestinians also lived there and shared the land for a long time, but later Zionists took control. Uyghurs have lived in Xinjiang since around 300 BC and have the right to say they want independence and don’t want to be controlled by China. But thank you so much for answering and I hope you reply to this

For those Americans who love Xinjiang Uighurs, know that there are other minorities in Xinjiang. Not just Uighurs. Also please show your love to other Muslims as well; Palestinians, Iranians, Iraqis and Libyans.

I largely agree with you’re assessment. That being said I think painting with such a broad brush in saying that China is combating “Terrorism” or “Radicalization” is often times regressive in its framing and similar to what we have seen in the post “ War on Terror” framing of the middle east. While the caveat about the effectiveness of the these programs is important. I do feel it’s necessary to mention that at the core “Radical” ideas is still a often overlooked aspects of Islamic culture that often times only become radical when there is larger issues that are unresolved issues. I think that this is often ignored by the CCP’s approach to Xinjiang often just wanting the Uyghurs to be be more like the Hui and just to be Chinese but also Muslim and ignoring what being Muslim means to them as cultural signifier leading to the various separatist and terrorist organizations among the population.

Americans are obsessed with xinjiang when we need to be obsessed with our local native population who are still being systemically oppressed economically, socially, and politically. Maybe if we examined contradictions within our own society we wouldn’t be a backwards nation

The thing that trips me up is that there is a law “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Regulation on De-extremification” that specifies risk factors of extremism like not eating pork, wearing face veils, stopping drinking and smoking, and having certain haircuts. Do you believe these restrictions are profiling Muslims?

Also if there was cultural genocide the Uyghur language and script wouldn’t be promoted and used. Uyghur people have access to television channels and programming in their own language. Does the Blackfeet Nation have its own television station? No. All the west can do is project.

Calling this ‘zero evidence’ just tells me you haven’t looked at any serious reporting or research. Dismissing mass detention, surveillance, and testimonies from former detainees as if they’re comparable to ‘boarding school’ is honestly absurd. Population stats don’t magically disprove human rights abuses, and redefining genocide to suit your argument doesn’t make it go away. You’re not ‘debating facts’—you’re selectively ignoring them.

Muslim countries have defended China and said: China doesn’t torture Chinese Muslims instead they’re living good lives in China, these countries are: Saudi Arabia, uae, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait , you can see the most Muslim practicing countries acknowledge that Chinese Muslims lives good lives and practicing their religion
