@theashleymfox: Here is how you build a trust for your family! First, you need to operate with discretion. Building a trust and deciding how you plan to pass down your wealth does not require you to speak to everyone in your family about it, and it certainly does not require you to consult your friends. Write it out first, set your intention, and then decide who needs to be involved. Next, you need to organize and account for all of your assets. You cannot protect what you have not properly identified. Make a detailed list of your: ▪️Current cash flow ▪️Savings ▪️Debt ▪️Real estate ▪️Businesses ▪️Life insurance ▪️Any other assets you own Your trust will serve as the legal container that protects your assets, so it is very important that you are organized. Once you have organized your assets, it is time to define your purpose. You need to be clear about why you are building this trust and how you intend to pass down your wealth. You might be creating a trust to avoid probate. You might be setting rules to control how and when money is distributed. You might be building structure to ensure your family sustains the wealth they receive. Your objective determines the legal structure you put in place. That is how you protect your wealth and position your family for long-term stability. Opening a trust (I recommend working with an estate planner) creates protection and opportunity for both you and your family.
