i chose verso’s ending because what he said caught me, maelle could paint again. it gives me hope that maelle could paint again, and this time she’d paint a better world with those characters again. unlike in maelle’s ending she’s literally dead (but sure her painting version is alive) however they’re stuck in that world that’s filled with bloodshed, and the real!maelle doesn’t exist anymore to create a new hope. as long as real!maelle is alive is what gave me hope.

There's no right or wrong ending as there's no right way to grieve but this ending was so dark poor Maelle but poor Verso the way he looked at her with so much hate urgh heartbreaking

if you pay attention to some of the faces of the expedition you realize that most of them aren't really who you played with in the game. and the paint on Maelles face shows that despite taking over the canvas, she can't paint over him, so she has to control him through the canvas. Sciel and Lune are forced to be happy by getting those who they love come back at the cost of memory, proven by Gustave having eternal youth apparently while all of the expedition has aged.

Both endings feel so wrong and devastating. I chose Maelle, and I would choose it every single time. I cannot imagine her moving on in any decent quality of life in reality. He had the whole life inside this painting as well. And losing all those people within the painting is just as real as her brothers death. The only better option would be to leave verso dead, and not “repaint” him against his will.

Verso's last trace of soul condemned to paint. Painted Verso condemned to live. Renoir condemned to lost a daughter and live with guilt. Clea condemned to face her family future alone. Aline (maybe) condemned that she is guilty of the way the things ended. Alicia condemned to die. That's definitely the worst ending in the game.

I sincerely believe that the whole “no right ending” thing is just Sandfall’s way of appeasing their audience. The visual and audial presentation of each ending says otherwise. This ending is hell and they know it.
