Research shows that tics, including vocal tics, often draw from words or phrases stored in a person’s memory. The brain does not create language out of nowhere; it pulls from previously heard or learned material. That doesn’t automatically mean intent or hatred , but it does mean the words had to exist in the person’s vocabulary at some point. Acknowledging that Tourette’s is real and involuntary does not erase the impact of what was said. Both things can be true: he has a medical condition, and the words spoken were harmful , especially if they targeted two minorities on one of the most significant days of their lives. Impact still matters, even when intent is absent. This isn’t about labeling someone a villain or demanding punishment. It’s about accountability and acknowledgment.
