This jives well with the “add, not subtract” mentality I’ve seen from a nutritionist creator on here whose name escapes me. The idea being to encourage people to add good things to their diet rather than avoid bad things. Makes a lot of sense but many folks are still very tied up in moralizing behaviors instead of what’s the most effective strategy to cause real change.

Maybe I’m missing something but why are we treating eating vegetables like some kind of punishment we must endure? Why not enjoy them on your pizza, burrito, in your meatloaf or casserole? I reject judgement on this issue and will be happy to have my veg on my pizza, in my sandwich or on their own.

I wonder if this is a diet culture thing. where people equate eating veggies as healthy because it's less calories not because of the nutrients. So adding it to pizza "doesn't count" because you're getting the additional calories from the pizza.

Serving sizes of pizza toppings are a big factor IMO. 1/4 cup of mushrooms + 1/3c tomato sauce across an entire pizza doesn't contribute to nutrition goals.

There is nothing inherently unhealthy about pizza. It’s a nice balance between carbs, fat and protein. Sure it’s best to pair it with a salad but that’s not hard.

I also feel like those arguing added veggies shouldn’t count aren’t the target audience… we all have to start somewhere, and adding veggies for someone who hasn’t prioritized it before is still progress

My fave way to hack a healthy dinner is to eat a salad while my pizza cooks and then eat it with some frozen shrimp cocktail. Minimal cooking, maximum variety!
