A friend of mine has been working with the symbiotic bacteria in those bugs whose genome is becoming smaller. Our lab was interested in minimal genomes for synthetic biology. This is the first time I hear of the viruses growing their genome. Biology is awesome 😎

I've never understood why motility is a requirement for being categorically alive. Why is that? it seems like at some point someone said to themselves "well, all living things seem to move, so that must be a prerequisite" and it stuck. is there actual reasoning behind it?

I think it's a little amusing, but mostly sad that just because we cant clearly communicate with other life on earth, that we assume they are not a self aware in the same or similar ways we are
