My advice and I'm a police officer of 34 years is when they start walking up on you don't back down Don't back up because then they keep moving up on you if they come up and touch you that's assault because they have no probable cause it's still assault it's conduct on becoming an officer for them to try to intimidate you I'm sure it's a violation of policy it is at my department and in my department and I'm sure it's the same there they're supposed to treat members of the public with respect and dignity in fact just about a month ago we had a big discussion in roll call about that and the chief came and he was visiting all the roll calls discussing how we treat members of the public it's the same there Don't let these people intimidate you into backing up because then you've already lost I'm not against cops because I'm one of them but I'm against bad policing and this is bad policing police officers need to know their limitations and one thing I've noticed on social media is and in person with other officers is officers don't know when to disengage they don't know when to stop and turn around and walk away That's why this is so important for officers to be educated on first amendment subjects
