@spicymombrain: Those small "rabbit hay" bags are wildly overpriced. Buy compressed hay bales instead of tiny pet store bags. You'll save SO much money. #homesteadingmom #rabbits #guineapigs #budgetfriendly
actually pellets are hay based. rabbits don't require hay for forage. just get a quality pellet. extra hay can cause issues.

City life Homesteading :
"compressed" is the major issue as to why NOT to get this for small animals... when the hay is compressed it pressed out the oils and nutrients that the animals need the hay for... not to mention they even give you a disclaimer stating that wire and plastics could be in the mix and to be careful.
buy in bulk but DONT BUT COMPRESSED for small animals.

Small pet select has the best hay. Bright green and full of nutrition! They’re the best!

If that is their cage please research rabbit care, we have come a long way! things are different now and it would really benefit them if you look into proper rabbit care now

A year? Yeah right! lol 😂 that’ll last 2 months at most! But can’t beat that lower price! I go to IFA and CalRanch. Gonna have to try tractor supply.

Go to a local horse barn and ask to buy a bale of hay. I pay $3.00-4.00 a bale.

I used to buy alfalfa cubes and Timothy cubes from the horse section for my rabbit. She made much less mess with the cubes then the hay!

Ooh good advice!
Also for kitty litter, grab the wood pellets at tractor supply. They're like $7 for a huge bag vs. $15 for the "good litter" that still smells bad when they urinate in it. When the wood pellets get wet, it just smells like pine 😊

Here’s an even better idea go to a local farmer who grows Timothy alfalfa whatever your rabbit would eat typically a large pill used for horses is between 5 to 7 dollars and you also helped support small farmers

But these are made to feed horses, the small animal specific hay is more hand picked for small animals to max nutrition (and more manageable pieces)
