@dr.amybkillen: Should we be checking FSH in women taking estrogen in menopause? 🤔 FSH rises at menopause from < 10 IU/L to > 40 IU/L as the ovaries become less able to make estrogen. Estrogen therapy will often cause FSH to go back down as the pituitary gland stops SCREAMING at the ovaries to make estrogen. We don't have an ideal number for FSH in menopausal women taking hormones but some physicians like keeping it < 20. If you want to learn more, check out my recent Substack article on the topic. ✅
I just had mine checked it was 94 and I’m only 45. What is going on?

My doctor checks mine. She said she wants it to be reduced by half in menopause while I’m on BHRT.

Makes me wonder if my doctor was rare because she did full panels and included everything. When she did my thyroid - it had absolutely everything. Same when she did my hormone panel

If I ask my doc to check it, at 52 and post menopausal, why would a normal level be? What would be considered high?

I just reviewed several articles about FSH in postmenopausal women not taking hormones. Many of these studies were done in China. High FSH was associated with some disease states and low FSH associated with other disease states.
