Facts. This literally just happened to me. At first I couldn’t understand how I didn’t get the role because I genuinely felt I had the stronger experience and skill set. Then I realised I’d been quietly getting on with the work without much visibility, while someone else was regularly highlighting theirs with the CFO and ended up getting the job instead. Definitely a lesson learned but tbh I’m not that kind of person so not sure how to change

A missing piece here is your "line manager's perception". I got a recognition from a global scale project end of last year after working with multiple teams in an integration project and still got a "did not deliver" as a performance review rating. I still have to work on making my work visible to the right people but its so heartbreaking when I read the performance review rating without a exhaustive feedback.
