I think consciousness is like a blueprint of what makes us human or thinking beings. Think of it like a tree seed even though it’s a seed it is still a tree. Then think of someone watering the tree to grow that is basically represent our experience, memories and emotions we experience in life. Then finally it becomes a tree which represents you as a person.

there are hundreds of theories of consciousness. R.L. Kuhn recently published "A landscape of consciousness: Toward a taxonomy of explanations and implications". it gives brief summaries of all the major positions through academia (chemical, electrical, structural, computational, ect) and spirituality (major religions and folk interpretations). humanity has been asking this question for as long as we could imagine without solid answers. good luck

This! it's what scientists have struggled to understand. The 'soul' part of a human. And to add on to what your saying i think they will soon. Humans have achieved the ability to control things with their mind (neuralink). Weve been able to create robot parts like a heart, leg, arm and more.That could replace the meat suit of a human. What happens when we dont need a lung...a heart or a leg. What happens if they find out how to turn the electricty in our brains to data? Eventually I think we will be able to control the evolution of dying in the first place. The future excites me even though i wont expirence it.

Consciousness is the quality of likeness to be Conscious is to be in tuned with what its like to have an experience it could be visual, sensual, auditorial etc whether or not we survive bodily death is gonna be parasitic on a view you hold as it pertains to the philosophy of mind, if u are a substance dualist that will largely be true, but if you think Conscious states like "pain" are just mental descriptions of physical processes and neural correlates of certain sorts then you are an identity theorist, on the other hand u might think the mental supervience on the physical but that opens you to the interaction problem between these two seemingly ontological different substances. They are empirical cases of near death experience and how brains processes can be latent or dormant while Consciousness experiences still undergo u should read on that if u are interested
