💛 Once Upon a Smile 💛 I had the absolute pleasure of connecting with the incredible Once Upon a Smile, a children’s bereavement charity based in Greater Manchester, and chatting to Charlotte and have a visit planned for next to meet the lovely team. Founded in 2011 by Danny Miller and Daniel Jillingd, Once Upon a Smile provides practical and emotional support to bereaved families, helping children and their families adjust to a new life following the death of a loved one. I was genuinely blown away by what they have created. ❤️ Their centre offers so many creative programmes, giving children and young people a safe, supportive and fun environment where they can remember their loved ones and express their thoughts and feelings in a way that feels right for them. There really is something for every age and interest, including: 🎱 Chill-out room with pool table 🧁 Baking room 🎨 Arts & crafts 🧸 Snuggles & Smiles 🎵 Music room 🧒 Children’s play room 🎬 Cinema room 🧱 LEGO room 💛 Share & Care room As you can probably imagine, the LEGO room was particularly special for me! 🧱❤️ Seeing how LEGO and creativity can be used to help children communicate, express themselves and work through their grief was incredibly moving. Their support goes beyond the centre too, including support for schools and the wider family, recognising that bereavement can affect every part of a young person’s life. What makes everything they do even more remarkable is that Once Upon a Smile is run entirely on charitable donations and fundraising. Every bit of support helps them continue providing these vital services to children and families when they need them most. 💛 It was a real pleasure meeting Charlotte and the team. Their passion, compassion and dedication are incredible, and the impact they are having on children and their wider families really is something special. Thank you for welcoming me and showing me around. I came away feeling incredibly inspired by the work you do.
