@zacksfever: No bed syndrome is real, and it is costing lives. My heart goes out to every family that has been turned away or forced to drive from facility to facility in an emergency. From the medical side, “no bed” is often shorthand for “no safe capacity” meaning no staff to monitor, no oxygen points, no ICU space, equipment down, no blood, or no theatre slot. A mattress alone cannot treat a critically ill patient. So what do we do? Practical fixes we can push for now: 1. Stabilise first policies across all emergency units, even when transfer is needed. 2. A real time capacity dashboard for ICU, oxygen, theatre, and ward space across major facilities. 3. Stronger ambulance and referral coordination with direct clinician to clinician communication before arrival. 4. Decongest tertiary hospitals by strengthening district level emergency care and step down beds. 5. Clear accountability and transparent reporting when emergencies are refused. This is not about attacking health workers or gaslighting the public. It is about building a system that can deliver emergency care safely and consistently. If you have experienced “no bed syndrome,” share your story in the comments. #ghanatiktok🇬🇭 #ghana

The stress on the nurse and the doctor is very intense. Sometimes I feel like leaving the country but I love my country

Ghana’s public healthcare system runs a lot on improvisation. From improvised CPAP and incubators to turning corridors and waiting areas into wards, we adjust every day just to keep patients alive. If we strictly followed the book in the middle of our resource limitations, many patients simply wouldn’t survive. What people sometimes mistake for “things working” is actually frontline staff stretching a system beyond its limits. It’s not comfort. It’s survival.

Why don’t get more resources and employ more hands (nurses and doctors ). Many nurses and. doctors complete school and are not posted. We can’t apportion blame but sometimes the solution is right before us. Is it that we choose to do nothing ? I stand to be corrected

"No bed" happened to me in January 2021 Dr. Zack. I prefer not to mention the health facility bcuz last time I tried speaking about it online, someone from there, tried to shake me down here and via email. Whole time, primary mistakes were made, something was even left inside my head, for months. Scar across my face is a daily reminder

And most importantly poor sense of urgency and bad attitude. I had to call my former boss to call some of her colleagues before getting a bed for my late dad.

I hear the point about legal implications, but let’s be real, in a system as broken as ours, there are legal and ethical risks at every turn, many of which are ignored daily when it's convenient especially for politicians and big men. The random person in this country isn't seen as worth anything by medical professionals case in point the medical kalabule expose and the obvious silence on it especially from within the medical fraternity. I mean, just look at how much attention that got and how much this is getting.

One thing I applaud BMH I’ve never heard it before. I remember one client was asked to go to another facility. The warning they gave to us no. It has not happened again. May our sister be better
