Shareholders are people who profit off a company, but do no actual work to generate those profits.

BlackRock vanguard and other hedge funds and investment banks also own each other. So it's a giant family of a monopoly.

So… hear me out. What if… what if instead we create companies where the workers each own an equal voting share in the company and they vote on who gets to be CEO and on the Board of Directors? And then when the company makes profits they are split between reinvestment in the company and dividends to all of the workers as a %-bonus on their regular income? Governments fund giant corporations anyway why not fund cooperative ones instead.

They do have the voting rights. BUT what they also have is a fiduciary duty to use those voting rights to give you the best returns possible on YOUR investment. These people are not evil per se they’re just following their narrow duties and incentives. The system is fucked, Blackrock and other firms are just looking at the small picture and doing good to their clients, by any means necessary (which is their legal obligation) and this is why the financial system needs more regulation

If you teach capitalism in school, it invites valid criticism in class. So it’s just quietly ignored instead.

This only applied if you own a mutual fund or etf. If you own shares you get to vote

Everything is divided into shares of surplus, circled through layers of obfuscation and speculation. Das Capital vol 3 goes into this in depth
