There’s so many ways to preserve a trap now. I mostly use logwood dye . I haven’t ever painted one. Seems like it’s working good for you

I’m by no means a numbers trapper just a hobby thing but I switched to a paint based dye this year and had the worst K9 season ever and I know there’s a ton of factors but K9 s avoided traps daily and in my head I have to think it’s because of the paint dye

Powdercoat em and it’s years of protection. Fortunately I have a coating setup so that’s what I do.

Love how different everyone’s traps can be. We don’t wax and dye. We have some painted but not all. We don’t paint them until they actually need it. What we do every year is remove the rust with vinegar and baking soda baths. Make sure they fire, jaws hit good and call it ready.

we dye our traps every year like I was taught by my pa,pa. we use boiling water with black walnuts, while it boiling you drop 6 or so traps in for about 20 minutes, they turn black and catch critters

Can’t beat the K9’s straight out the box. Set out 8 on a road in a hunting club and caught 43 coyotes in lil over 3 months. I’ll never dye or wax another trap again.

What’s crazy u don’t even need to put trap wax on it’s a gimmick , as long as u got scent and stinky bait next to it they’ll step on it

Paint works fine but just your cheap longwood dye last longer as a coating and waxing makes the trap faster and smoother in my opinion Old skool ways worked for so many years for a reason. I do paint my beaver food holds but that’s all.

To each their own as long as they’re preserved that’s the key. I’ll dye mine to the bitter end. Come to think of it out of all the used traps I bought at different places I’ve never seen a painted one for sale
