@josh_neille: Installing an automated watering system in the soft-release pen for Betty & Kev… a job I thought would be quiet because I hardly see them anymore. Half an hour in, Kev heard the ruckus on HIS patch and came out to give me a formal eviction notice 😅 Those little “fart” noises you can hear? That’s wombat for: “This is my place, I’m not scared of you, and if you don’t back off I will absolutely delete your ankles.” 💨🦶 Bit rude considering I hand-reared the bloke, did the midnight feeds, kept him alive… thought we had something special 🥲 But this is exactly why they’re in soft release. They rewild. They stop wanting humans and start wanting us GONE. Over the years I’ve learnt wombats have a whole soundboard: 🔊 Rapid screech — stressed / lost / “Where are you?” 💨 Fart noise — territory warning, confident, not scared 🐶 Dog-like growl — feels threatened, means business ✨ Excited pant + hiss — happy zoomies incoming So yeah… the wombat whisperer got told off today. Kev even started chewing my polly pipe like a furry little site inspector from hell 🛠️ Imagine hiring a tradie and then marching outside making threat noises until he climbs down the ladder and leaves 😂 Lucky I love these critters.
