What I found most amazing about this video is you can sail around the world and people still speaking English.

Well said. That turtle lived a much better life than the chickens in the nuggets people love to eat.

No different than taking a deer. Respect for the animal and using it wisely matters.

as someone who loves animals, id rather see this than knowing the mass unaliving of animal for mass consumption. living off the land sustainably is what we should all aspire to be

You should not have to explain culture to adults. Everyone should know that different cultures have different values, mores, and beliefs. Keep educating. Teachers are the instruments of social change.

As a child we would eat turtle soup in the Caribbean. Then they banned it due to declining population. It worked because they have returned in abundance.,

They respect animals and they not only eat the meat but they try to use every part of the animal they can. This does not bother me one bit and it shouldn’t bother anyone. Now what people should be mad about are the rich who go to dif countries to slaughter animals to hang on their wall or unethical farming which is where many people get their meat from when purchasing at the store and not blinking an eye about it.

Given what we are told about sea turtles, it is a little hard to see. Thank you for acknowledging that. But you are 100% right, different place, different culture, you can’t judge others based on the norms of your culture. The beauty of our world is in the diversity

If anything the meat at the supermarket is worse. These people are using the entire animal. Nothing is going to waste for greed or money.

Imma have to disagree with the comparison to supermarket meat...
.
They are absolutely better than us in that regard. Better end product, treated with more respect, utilized more completely.
.
Thank you SO much for showing us some of the culture you find out in the world.

I eat chicken liver almost every day. sometimes beef liver or heart. I'd bet turtle liver would be really interesting to try.

Good psa. And yes, the meat in our grocery stores has been brutally, inhumanely handled. These turtles - living their best lives.

Interesting video! As a marine scientist I find the topic of sustainability, species management and conservation and the crossover with indigenous communities so complex. I think personally, sustainability/conservation are western values which we are very privileged to be able to adhere to. It’s easy for me to sit here and say probably not best to eat turtles when it’s not even remotely close to my daily diet. Who are we as westerners to sit and tell someone to remove a dietary staple of potentially cultural significance and does it ever get to a point where doing so would benefit species conservation efforts. Interesting stuff!

I’m assuming they also don’t harvest young turtles. Bigger turtles mean more meat. And those turtles have lived long lives, sometimes 100 years.

This is beautiful to see how other cultures live so simply with what’s provided. That turtle lived a good life. In America, chickens and cows are bred and farmed and tortured from day one until they’re butchered.
