Fellow Infantrymen of the Class of 2020, Tonight in Arnold Hall at the United States Military Academy, I had the distinct honor of presiding over Assignment Night for our approximately 240 seniors who have chosen—and earned—the Infantry Branch. As a proud West Point '92 graduate and lifelong Infantryman myself, I can tell you there are few moments more rewarding than watching this next generation of leaders step forward to claim their future. These outstanding cadets, based on their class rank and preferences, selected their initial Army units and duty stations. From storied divisions and brigades across the United States and around the world, they locked in the posts where they will begin their service as commissioned officers after graduation and commissioning this May. This is more than just picking a location—it's the first real step into leading America's sons and daughters in the profession of arms. You've trained relentlessly here at West Point, and now the path ahead includes opportunities like Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, and beyond, before you join the line and lead platoons in the Infantry. To the Class of 2026 Infantry selectees: Congratulations on your choices and your commitment to Queen of Battle. The Regiment is stronger because of you. Lead well, stay humble, take care of your Soldiers, and never forget why you raised your right hand. It was a privilege to be part of this milestone with you tonight. Onward to May—stay Army Strong!
