Do you think a lead off hitter should take this approach?

also what ive seen in college baseball most pitchers are trying to get ahead early so they are probably gonna give you something to hit early

I’m with you. First pitch is typically the best pitch you’ll see the whole at bat, might as well take advantage. I hate the mentality of “go up and see one”. For what? So the pitcher gets ahead and opens up his arsenal? Nah I’m good.

Yessir! First pitch is often best pitch. Pitchers are trying to work ahead, first pitch strike is beat into our heads. Swing early. Swing often

Decent advice, but there are exceptions. Trying to get to the bullpen when a guy is dealing. You don’t want that starter going out in the 9th inning with 60 pitches because the entire team swung at anything close. There are some strikes that need to be taken.

If you don’t go up there to hit, you won’t… approach is such a big piece of hitting.

The first pitch strike is going to be the best pitch of the at bat

I've never understood why coaches want you to take a strike. You are setting yourself up for failure. That first strike is normally the best pitch imo.

I’ll never forget my coach telling me I hit 489 with first pitch fastballs and I just started taking hacks every first at bat and I would get one double a game off that shit. The first inning pitchers usually are trying to bring it and I just didn’t let them beat me and that set the tone for the rest of the game.

That works in the amateurs. But once you get to the pro’s You need to learn how to work the count . Plus baseball is a team sport if can work the count to 12 pitches a at bat the pitcher be out by the 3rd inning.
