@justbegooder: They asked people who survived suicide jumps one question: “What did you think right after you let go?” For decades, the Golden Gate Bridge was one of the most studied locations in suicide prevention research. In the 1970s, psychiatrist Richard Seiden interviewed survivors who had jumped and lived. What he found was consistent. Every single survivor reported instant regret — the moment they let go. Not days later. Not after therapy. Not after reflection. Seconds after the decision. Many described realizing mid-fall that every problem in their life felt solvable — except the irreversible choice they had just made. One of the most well-known survivors, Kevin Hines, has shared this for years: “The instant my hands left the rail, it was instant regret.” While falling, he understood something profound: The pain pushing him toward suicide was temporary — but the action he had taken was permanent. And his story wasn’t an outlier. Researchers observed a powerful pattern: Suicidal crises are often brief. The desire is usually not to end life — it’s to end pain. When the moment is interrupted — when time passes, when someone intervenes, when connection happens — the intensity often decreases. Long-term follow-ups showed that the vast majority of survivors did not go on to die by suicide later. That matters. It means: Time matters. Interruption matters. Connection matters. The brain under extreme emotional distress narrows options. It convinces you the current pain is permanent. But neuroscience shows emotional intensity spikes — and then shifts. That spike is not the whole story. Even in the deepest parts of the funk forest, clarity can return. 🗣️ CTA If you’ve ever wrestled with why life can feel unbearable — and still meaningful — my book To Become explores those questions through a near-death experience that reframes why we’re here and why our lives matter, even in dark seasons. And if this reached you in a heavy moment: Please pause. Please stay. Please talk to someone. If you’re in the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you’re outside the U.S., please reach out to your local crisis line or emergency services. This moment is not the end of your story. 🌲🦶💛 suicideprevention, crisisintervention, mentalhealthawareness, suicideawareness, emotionalcrisis, golden gate bridge study, kevin hines story, suicidalideation, crisishelp, hopeincrisis, justbegooder, mentalhealthsupport, 988lifeline #suicideprevention #MentalHealthAwareness #988lifeline #hopeincrisis #justbegooder

The Bridge (2006) is a haunting documentary directed by Eric Steel that chronicles suicides at San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in 2004. Filmed over a year, it captures actual falls, features interviews with victims' families and survivors, and sparked crucial debates on mental health and suicide prevention, often featuring in documentaries about the site.

I have chronic illness, ab*se survivor, no money, no family, no friends, no job. It's just going to keep getting worse. I'm one of the people who can't be saved. There won't be any regret for me. Only peace for the first time ever.

I don‘t believe this - I have heard again and again from people who have survived suicide that they deeply regretted having been saved.
