🇵🇬 These are not hats, but wigs! Meet the Huli Wigmen Tribe of Papua New Guinea. I was lucky enough to meet them on my trip to Papua in their village about 2 hours away from Mount Hagen in the Central Highlands. The Huli people are an indigenous group who’s culture is characterized by vibrant traditional attire, body decoration and unique rituals just like many colorful tribes in Papua New Guinea. The famous Huli Wigmen create and wear handmade wigs made from their own hair and as the chief is explaining in the video, it takes about 3 to 4 years to create a ceremonial wig that can be worn in public ceremonies and rituals. The kids even go to the wig school and learn how to make these incredible wigs which are adorned with lots of incredible and colorful feathers from birds. The youngsters will have to make two wigs before they have their Wig exam and final test to make their most incredible wig and show it to chiefs of the villages. The Huli society is traditionally organized into clans, and they live normal lives as farmers and are famous for farming sweet potatoes. Rituals, dances and ceremonies play a significant role in their social and spiritual life. These people were amazingly friendly and welcoming, we were even shown around in their village and they showed us their houses. The best way to learn the fastest about their culture is to show respect for their traditions, costums and way of life. Many more videos about the Huli Wigmen coming so stay tuned @traveltomtom with many more tribe videos from Papua New Guinea. #travelvlog #travelblogger #papua
