@drcleoryals: Doctors look for specific markers on the cancer cells, including estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and HER2. These markers help determine how the cancer grows and which treatments are most likely to work. Broadly, breast cancers fall into three major categories: • Hormone receptor–positive, HER2-negative • HER2-positive • Triple-negative Each type has different treatment options, different patterns of spread, and different outcomes. This is why two people with “breast cancer” can have completely different treatment plans. Doctors also consider other important factors such as stage, tumor grade, genetic mutations like BRCA, and biomarkers such as PD-L1. Together, these details guide personalized treatment decisions. Understanding your subtype is one of the most important pieces of information after a diagnosis because it shapes everything that comes next. #cancer #breastcancer #tnbc #womenshealth #cancerawareness

Canadian Jane :
I was just diagnosed and they are sending me to surgery right away but I’m seeing so many women on here who go through chemo first before surgery. Why are they sending me to surgery first?

I was diagnosed with noninvasive ductal carcinoma insitu I had a lumpectomy and. Radiation with tamoxifen as a hormone blocker. There are debates that because the cell died and or stayed it is not considered having cancer. What is your thoughts on that?

I really appreciate this information. I'm wondering if you can also differentiate between ductal and lobular cancer, how they present differently, where they spread, how they are best identified, and what new research is suggesting.

I’m fighting triple negative now. Mine was poorly differentiated. Also got a grade 3 after a double mastectomy. Waiting to see if I need more chemo or radiation. Definitely more immunotherapy again and had neulasta

I was dx with mixed lobular and ductal carcinoma stage 1B, HR+/PR+, HER2 negative. Multifocal with the largest tumor being 6.5 cm. Had bilateral mastectomy (1 side prophylactic), 4 rounds of AC & 4 rounds of Taxol, and 20 rounds of radiation. MammaPrint shows a high risk of distant recurrence. Starting an AI in 2 weeks, then a chemo pill in 6 weeks.

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I was diagnosed one year ago with triple negative and BRCA positive. Thankfully I’m on the other side and rebuilding my life.

Not until I got breast cancer did I realize there were different types of breast cancer. I have estrogen receptor positive breast cancer. Now I’m on tamoxifen for 5 years and although I am grateful that I did not require chemo, I’m having a very hard time on the tamoxifen

Cancer in general is not one simple disease. People always say: why don’t they found the cure for cancer? And I always say: which cancer? Be more especific.

I was diagnosed with HER2+ stage 2 grade 3. THANK YOU for explaining this in a way that I understand. What id like to understand is HOW did I get it? Too much estrogen in my body?

Thank you for sharing all this! I’m amazed at the amount of women I come in contact with have very little understanding of these things! You are needed as well as patient stories with the knowledge that cancers can be treated differently by the person.

I think this is great. Thank you. What is frustrating is that blocking estrogen is only a bandaid. We aren’t really looking at the cause
