@ashleytheebarroness: People talk about the Cold War like it was chess. In Indonesia, it was a massacre. In 1965–66, over half a million people were k*lled, leftists, labor organizers, teachers, farmers, while the U.S. cheered it on as ‘stability.’ Lists were shared. Silence followed. And the bodies became policy. This is what ‘anti-communism’ looked like on the ground. #indonesia🇮🇩 #coldwar #worldhistory #historytok #fyp

Thank you for your words. My great-grandfather was a victim of the massacre after being accused of being a communist. My grandmother told me he managed to return home badly injured and bleeding, but he later died from a fever possibly due to tetanus.

I always go back to a line I heard in a movie once, "History is written by the winners." We only know what we know because that's what the powers-that-be want us to know. Which is why I, also, have never heard of this.

thank you, Ashley, I have never heard of this history before. it chilled me to my bones as I listen about the past and consider the present moment we are all living in and how fear can be used to dehumanize groups marked for violence because they are now the enemy. thank you. I appreciate you so very much.

all the West is still turnover a blind eye to what the Indonesians are doing to West Papua while they and the US plunder their gold and other resources.
My country Australia even calls Papua New Guinea it's best friend. We don't seem to care about the other half of Papua New Guinea or the big island of West Papua (the same people). Nor does the rest of the world.
