@usdeclassified: On August 27, 1896, the Anglo-Zanzibar War became the shortest war in recorded history—lasting just 38 minutes. When the Sultan of Zanzibar died suddenly, his cousin seized the throne without approval from the British Empire, which controlled the region’s political future. Britain issued an ultimatum: step down by 9:00 a.m. or face military action. He refused. At 9:02 a.m., British warships opened fire. Their modern naval guns tore through the wooden palace, sank the royal yacht, and overwhelmed the Sultan’s defenders almost instantly. By 9:40 a.m., the palace was destroyed, the flag was lowered, and the war was over. Around 500 Zanzibari defenders and civilians were killed. The British suffered just one minor injury. In less time than a school class period, an entire regime was erased—and a clear message was sent to the world about the true cost of defying imperial power. History doesn’t always unfold over years. Sometimes, it ends in minutes. #historytok #historyfacts #forgottenhistory #warhistory #timelesstales
