@animatedrecordcompany: This illusion is wild. Nothing here is moving the way you think it is. This zoetrope record is designed so the track appears stationary when filmed. The cars spin with the disc… but to the eye, they appear to drive. #opticalillusion #animatedrecord #zoetrope #kineticart #motiondesign

BWHemm :

Can you put a car at an angle to look like drifting?

TikkedOff_777 :

I understand the zoetrope effect but what I am not understanding is how the cars are spinning so SLOWLY around the surface when placed down without any momentum or push in the opposing direction? If placed down static shouldn’t they spin as fast as the zoetrope, because those toy car’s wheels aren’t powered?

KNT ≪《KIBO NO TETSU》≫ :

Put it sideways and watch it goes

Rocinante :

It's still rotating slowly. THE MAGIC IS RUINED!!

user8722092548310 :

I'm confused

mobiuspizza :

It just matches the refresh rate of the video camera, won't work with real eyes in real life

setuyos :

I can see the disc spinning though? Just me?

adominator15 :

but sadly you couldn't play music and have the cars driving at the same time

Lewis Piper :

Animated Record Company :

Filmed at 30FPS to reveal the illusion

Andrea Toffano :

this only works due to the track being synced with the framerate, the track is rotating way faster than what we see in the video

jodidathing :

surely this only works on camera not irl because the shutters speed being synced to the rotation is what gives the effect of it being stationary?

Whiskeydrinker :

Doesn’t look stationary

LImesicle Sherbert :

So it’s not a vinyl?

goldenmonkey34 :

it is so cool, and I also really enjoy the bizzare effect of it going backwards when it slows down

dad knows too much :

This is violation of my framerate 😬

Sir Kelvin 🧡 :

for my sanity, I believe it’s AI

Alfie 🇱🇻 :

Imagine having a rally house song and making the cars drift 😭😭😭

Glottis :

The same effect is used to calibrate record players as well

kena.gay :

Wait until people who have never left their home says “it won’t work” “it destroys everything if you do it” etc

Relotrack :

only on phones or also real life?

zak :

et voilà

Nyoman :

shutter speed is adjusted in the perfect time
