We used to use pine cones as weather forecasters! They open and close. Warm dry weather open, wet weather closed! I wonder if baking stops that?

Dried pinecones are also brilliant fire lighters, especially the broken ones that would otherwise be abandoned. I’ve just taken them out of the weather and allowed them to dry naturally. It doesn’t take long, a week or so. They’re free too!
