maybe she meant that if it was an "accident"i.e typo, one wrong number ect that it would be declined. so therefor it was intentional since they did match

maybe the person where you did your taxes mixed up your paperwork with the person who came in after you could be maybe she left out some paperwork on her or his desk and when the other person came he or she assumed it belonged to them. js saying cause it has happened to me too

I’d be verifying that your tax preparer didn’t mix information with another client

The more frustrating part is the path act was supposed to help stop this. It doesn't and just delays refunds.

call IRS. Chances are, they haven't received refund yet.

It has to be someone with access to your Childs information. That would mean your Childs identity was stolen and you can file a police report because believe it or not someone can run up debt in a Childs name.

My school had a data breach through Power School and I had this happen with my child right after. You have to establish a pin with the IRS. You should do one for each child. You need to submit your paperwork proving that you are the person that has the right to claim the child . You also need to reach out to the credit bureaus and freeze the social security number. You need to file an identity theft claim with the IRS as well.

You only have to have the social and name match. The dob doesn’t matter. I deal with this every year.
