Oh. Looks like I’m the only one of the guys side 🙈😅 I asked to see my ex-partners phone as he would turn it away from me. He said no and it broke my trust as I felt like he was hiding something so can definitely see his perspective. I feel if there was nothing to hide, partners should be able to see each others phones 🤷🏻♀️

An open phone policy is the best policy. No secrets. Some times someone just needs reassurance because past trauma, psychological makeup or childhood experiences. I.e one parent cheated on another. It’s not about control, it’s about working as a team to make sure you minimise unnecessary doubt and conflict.

I think he should have been allowed to look through her phone but not click on her chats with her friends, just scroll down and see if there were any guys in her chats! That would be enough to reassure him

Maybe it’s because you’re saying your phone is yours and completely private? Me and my husband have an “open phone policy” if you like (we don’t call it that mind). We don’t go on them to check one and other but we aren’t secretive with them. He knows my pin, I know his. If we’re driving I will use his phone to use maps. Or he will ask me to go on his phone and ring someone for him. I will ask him “will you go on my phone and text my mum xyz for me please”. We know we have full access to one and others phones but we don’t feel the need to go through and check them because we’re not coming across as secretive in the first place?

Im on his side. If he is asking its because something has happened or hes feeling insecure. Absolutely no problem, Ive got notes with birthday gift ideas thats the only thing he wouldnt be able to go on.

See, when you feel the NEED to “go through” a phone the trust is already not there and that’s a wider issue. Reassurance for what and why? Me and my husband don’t “go through” each others phones but if I pick his up to put music on or check photos I want to send to myself I will do it. But I wouldn’t feel the need to look through his messages. This is a red flag.

While in a relationship you should always maintain personal boundaries and autonomy. Your phone carries so much data. Please check all your apps for the access/ privacy levels. That said, set ALL the boundaries.

I see both sides. If there is nothing to hide let him but then at the same time girl group chats can be a lot of private talk and she can’t be sharing that or letting him see. I personally wouldn’t let him but I would explain why.

I'd immediately think he was cheating tbh and so I'd just look through eachothers phones. Although I do get it, there's things you message your friends or say in a way that you wouldn't to your partner 🤷🏻♀️Not everyone gets all of you
