What’s blowing my mind is that the men in this country have so whole heartedly ✨not been listening✨ to women when we talk about our experiences with this type of behavior that many of them cannot comprehend why women heard this phone call and called it done with being fans of hockey. Women experience this type of misogyny and disrespect and minimization not only in sports and their jobs, but in medicine, in academia, in the performing arts, at home. It is a universal experience. What is more upsetting about all of this is this all could have been squashed with an apology. Bad sportsmanship is bad sportsmanship period, irrespective of gender. Any real athlete knows not to ever tolerate humiliation of your athlete peer, especially when at the top tier of your sport like the Olympics, bc you should know how hard it is to get at that level. Instead support each other, uplift one another. I heard the women’s hockey team was present in the audience cheering the men the day they won. That’s real sportsmanship. But a discussion happened after, it went left, and if you didn’t intend for that to happen, then issue a clear and sincere apology to your peers as a form of respect to them.

Maybe I’m bias but I see it as a joke. I honestly think out of all the issues in the world, we shouldn’t give this one thought. My workplace is dominated by females and I don’t think it’s an issue. I’m pro merit based hiring over DEI based hiring.

lFirstly, I wish they would never call these teams mens and womens. Pro athletes are (for the most part) - Boys and Girls. You have to be about 50 years old to be a grown man. Stop looking to pro athletes to be role models. That is not their job.
