The first ring you showed was a single stem setting with a diamond that fit proportionally with the rest of the ring. In that case the diamond is fine and safe. The second ring you showed was a much larger diamond on not only a single stem but also a thin band. That’s like trying to balance a dime plate on a tree stick. Of course it is going to get wonky. So. Really what you should be saying is your setting needs to match proportionally with the diamond and the rest of the band.
