@kyliejohnson.vb: High level athletes create their own flow state ‼️ It’s easy to let external factors (or lack of factors) determine the level of your play. The ref who made a bad call, the player who said a rude comment, the sleep you didn’t get the night before- the list goes on. On the court AND in life, those who succeed are simply those who have gotten reps and reps and reps of tuning into your highest self even when it’s freaking HARD. Emotional management is only possible with the acceptance of discomfort. When we’re able to say - “I’m overwhelmed AND I can find a way to get this job done” “I’m in pain AND I am capable of doing my job while I feel pain” “I only have 60% in the tank AND I’m going to give 100% of that 60%” - that’s when we start to be able to embrace that we are absolutely in control of our own flow state. Ask yourself: - What does my self talk look like? - Do I have data to prove that I’m capable? If not, how can I start to create and collect that data? When our reason for competing is based in proving our worth, we will never reach a true flow state. True flow is a product of embracing your humanity so completely that you can honestly assess where you ARE (not where you wish you were) and lean into that moment with everything you have.
