Do NOT slander the premature baby sideshow guy, he saved a lot of babies' lives in a time period where doctors saw it as a lost cause and he never charged the parents a penny for their children's care

If I remember correctly, the reason why preemie babies were attractions is because the maker of the preemie incubators wasn't a certified doctor and needed the funding, so it was the easiest way to get that funding

Fun fact: the infant incubator attraction is the reason why so many premature births are not nearly as fatal for the baby anymore! I was a preemie baby by a whole month and had to be in an incubator, myself. 🥰

it was an exhibition to raise money to pay for the incubator saving their life’s, it was very new tech and very expensive. mothers would bring their babies when the fair was in town hoping to save their babies life because it was their only real chance back then

As someone who was a preemie, we do not laugh at the preemie incubator attraction or the doctor that ran it cause it saved a lot of lives 😌 also probably awakened a few people’s desire to entertain and amaze

Yall gotta understand premi baby side show wasn’t purely for sick fascination, the doctor who started it did it because no hospital saw hope in caring for them, but carnivals paid for the weirdness of it. Because of this they were able to study and help save thousands of children in the show while also proving premi babies could be saved

There was a movie about a girl that did the horse jumping on water thing and ended up going blind after a jump went wrong and then it was “uplifting” because she learned to do the jump on the horse while blind

okay I guess this explains a few things. My great nan was born in 1914. When my eldest son was born 2 months premature he had to stay in hospital for several weeks. We brought my great nan in to visit him at the hospital (he was her first great great grandchild) and she treated the special care baby unit like an exhibition 🤦🏼♀️she was going around ogling at the other babies and the staff are had to tell her to stop out of respect.
