@noemilaviajera: Dinner at Sansou Shikian was one of those meals that reminds you why staying in a ryokan is different. When you book a ryokan in Japan, kaiseki dinner is part of the experience. As it should be. I arrived in Yufuin the day after it snowed, so the entire property was covered in white. Walking to the main building for dinner was magical! I had to take photos and videos of course so a 2min walk became 20mins. Can you blame me? The meal focused on local, seasonal ingredients from Oita Prefecture. Bungo beef, Oita’s specialty, was the highlight of course! It was rich, marbled and so good! There was also local jidori chicken, firmer and more flavourful than the usual cuts. We dined in a shared space with other guests of the ryokan, sitting on the tatami floor with our low table. The husband, who stands 6ft and 4in tall, had a hard time getting up after the meal.
