@shuggymom: 👇 👇 👇 Have you ever wondered what your vocal cords look like? Comment “vocal” if you wonder about this. This video was created by putting a camera probe down my throat. While it was there I had to vocalize with different sounds in order to get my vocal cords to move. What you are seeing and what is being discussed by the doctors, is how the vocal cords don’t close completely. Normal cords would close leaving no space. Mine have a nodule on one side and a diver on the other side. This causes the cords to stay open in an hourglass formation. Because they don’t close fully it creates stress on the voice. Making sounds is harder and my voice gets exhausted quickly. This is a repetitive stress injury, meaning my cords were overused without the right training. When I speak the extra effort cause swelling in the cords. There are exercises that I can do to help calm the inflammation but ignoring the signs for years led to the nodule forming. I worked in customer service and we were never told of the risk to our voice from prolonged talking daily. My speech pathologist said that she has been trying for years to get OSHA to recognize this injury as a workplace hazard. Doing so would require employers to give training to help prevent this injury from occurring. Just like they do with carpal tunnel which is another repetitive stress injury. #customerservice #disability #injury #medical #education
