Not only are Sheffield FC and Hallam FC the oldest football teams and have the oldest derby in football but the modern rules are based on the Sheffield Rules 1863 before that it was the Cambridge Rules that included picking the ball up There has been some form of "football" played in many ancient countries before the English created modern football from China across Europe and in America's but yes what we see today is based on the English game and importantly Sheffield
