I'd say he was worried that he ad to cancel and still interested in you and he wanted to make sure you're not sitting at home. p.s. if you mentioned this one time and he sent you the tickets I'd consider that a green flag.

wait, the way id overthink this...did he clear up his schedule and was he trying to still show up but didnt realize you were just being playful and got irritated so he is letting you go by yourself?
