A group of drunk young men attacked bouncers at a nightclub then hurled metal barriers at the door – but in the medley, they ended up chucking them at each other. The group, who had earlier been celebrating a 21st birthday, were denied entry to Ovation nightclub in Maidstone on 28 September last year. A court was told one of the group, Arthur Hicks, tried to force his way into the nightclub but was stopped by door staff. When he tried a second time, he was restrained. The then 20-year-old tried to punch one of the bouncers but was further restrained. Ethan Beaney and Jamie Walker, both 21, and Hicks then started throwing punches at the staff. Footage shown in court also showed Joshua Fennessy, 21, kicking one of the security guards in the back. When the security guards went inside the building and locked double doors behind them, Dre Mitchell, 20, joined the others in kicking the doors. The group also picked up metal barriers, used to control queues, and threw them at the doors. They were in such a frenzy that they hit each other with them. A security guard received a cut on his head, and another got a cut on his eye, and the nightclub said the group caused £1,787 of damage. All five men admitted their crimes at Medway Magistrates’ Court and were handed a 12-month suspended sentences for affray, which will run concurrently with a three-week sentence for criminal damage. They were fined a total of £3,287 for the damage to the doors and the injuries caused to the bouncers. Hicks, Beaney, Walker and Fennessy will have to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and Mitchell 200 hours of unpaid community work. They have all been excluded from visiting Ovation for 18 months. #5news #nightclub
