1.5” overhang is standard for countertops to allow for the depth of the drawer fronts. def don’t cut it down, 1” is perfect for this

Pls don’t paint the hall tree just stain it a nice light stain so the light flows nicely plus the darker it is, the more fingertips are gonna show
