In fantasy there’s very often real tangible gods that directly affect the world around them. So in that logic if there was real evidence of a god/goddess existing then yeah I would possibly follow a sovereign if I was a person in that world.

The fantasy is that the monarchy works, imo that has a lot of appeal. Fiction lets you run with scenarios that are not applicable in real life, plus theres a commentary on devoting your life in service to your people, i think theres a lot of ways to take it. Aragorn didnt return to exploit, he returned to save the world.
