@meggoandco: The last thing you want is to be stranded on your own with no map, no experience, and no way out. The only person you can rely on out there is yourself. Be prepared. Be safe. And also- if you’ve been alpine divorced… you better leave that man #Hiking #alpinedivorce #womenshiking #granolagirl #camping

And be careful how you split up the gear. Does he have the tent and the first aid kit? Make sure you have a bivvy and a mini kit of your own.

The only PERSON I will ever follow blindly into a hike is my father. I know he would never get us lost & would never ditch me. Everyone else I would know the route 100%

I couldn’t imagine. My husband would never. We have been hella hiking and when I tell you the one time he turned and I wasn’t there he PANICKED. He SCREAMED my name. I was like 5 ft away, I had crouched to look at a bug and bushes obscured me.

If this happens to you, immediately record a new voicemail on your phone. State your location, time, where you're heading, any helpful information. In case your battery runs out and someone calls. They'll have recent status information on you. It can save your life 💪💕

I GENUINELY don’t understand this phenomenon 😳. I have SO many questions and the thought process involved in ditching someone on the trail is beyond comprehension for me 😦. Did he get a long way ahead or just LEAVE? Was he at least waiting at the car? Or did you get done with your hike and have to figure out a ride home?

I had this exact thought when I saw that horribly sad video! Hopefully we can build an encouraging environment for women to explore on their own and feel safe/comfortable navigating the outdoors

You need to be able to trust the person you're with no matter how pissed you get at each other. That's basic survival.

The men in the comments of some of those videos…I’m the faster hiker between my partner and I, but we stay together and check in with each other. I’m there to enjoy nature WITH him. And if I want to solo hike, then I’ll go myself! But if I’m with people, I’m WITH them. It’s not hard!

If you’re hiking always have a compass with you and study the map of the area before you walk it so that you know what direction to go if you get lost or stranded alone.

I want to know exactly in what circumstance someone would leave someone on the mountain?! Like what happens leading up to that? You’re just not walking and watch them walk away?? There’s a convo expressing their need to leave??? I honestly don’t get it???

I don’t know if I’ll ever make sense of the extent some people will go to to be cruel.. if this has happened to you I’m so sorry, and your experience and story matter.

Always be the holder of the keys! Carry your own gear and protection. Thankful my husband wouldn’t do this to me and he’s also teaching me to be able to rely on myself outdoors.
