Arabic specifically was unique for me, since it’s a Semitic language I did not have to rely on a super large vocabulary initially because of the root system. I made the mistake of learning how to read and write first. I tried to speak to a Syrian Arab and he didn't understand a word I was saying. This was back in 2003. I learned how to speak the Lebanese dialect and went back to the same Syrian Arab guy 3 years later and he understood everything I said. 😁
