Hypophosphatemia is very dangerous because it is mediated by FGF23 and the renal wasting of phosphate can last from weeks to months, that is thy checking VitaminD levels and Phosphate levels prior to an infusion are important. It has a higher incident rate with Ferinject and Injectafer (Ferric Carboxymaltose) iron formularies. Rather use Monofer for an infusion as it has a lower incident rate. In medical terminology always ask your Dr for Monoferric and not Ferric Carboxymaltose. Please also ensure Vit b12 levels are above optimal as Vit D, B12 and Iron deficiencies usually go together.

I got this on day 5 after ferrinject. It’s most likely you’ll get it after that one. I took effervescent phosphate tablets for 2 weeks.

okay serious question for those who've had iron infusions - I go for my first treatment on 3/16, I have to get them once a month and each one will be 4-hours long. I need all the advice and info please... what to do before, things to avoid, things to ask the nurse at the visit before they hook me up, etc - TIA 🩵

I was so scared to have this condition after Injectafer. I did a check two weeks after my second dose and my phosphate fell from 2.7 before the infusions to 1.7. I never had symptoms. I was making sure to eat enough phosphate in my diet in that time.

Glad you are feeling better. I am on day 2 and a half after infusion and I am still unwell. I am trying the coke thing, plus Panadol and nurofen for joint pain and anti nausea medication hopefully I will be ok tomorrow to go to work. I hope you recover well 🤗

I seem to need an infusion around every 12 months ans I have had low phosphates the last two times. Not fun. The last one I have to have 3x supplements to bring it back up. Just had an infusion yesterday. Nervous for the wait till the blood test next week.

I just had an infusion like 2 weeks ago. I just been craving coke so bad that I drank 3 can in a 24 hr period I put it down to being sick with RSV at the moment. I wonder if it’s got something to do with having that iron infusion. Also this is my 3rd iron infusion in a year.

For the future you can ask for a half dose of iron. I have a bad reaction the first time on a full dose. I’ve just had a second one with a half dose with minimal effects

I had one last November I was prescribed ferinject 1000mg I did not get one single symptom!! Felt great! Hope this helps 🩷🩷
