I saw a driver who had been pulled over by a police officer and to every question the officer asked he said “I do not answer questions.” He provided all the documents requested by the officer, but he did not respond to any questions, and in the end the officer had nothing he could charge him with and let him go. I think this is the best approach when interacting with American police officers.
