This reminds me of a video someone did a year ago where she said she max out her work pension so she doesn’t pay her student loan and people were in arms about it. There’s are no illegal dealings here, just different priorities

That’s a solid approach. Much better to look at it like a tax rather than a debt!

I used to keep six figures in my business until I worked out my corporation tax bill. I paid something like £30K in tax this year - you don’t want that. Put the money in your pension

It’s so nice you acknowledge your position AND you’re 100% right on everything you said. There are so many pros to starting your own business and this is one of them

But over 30 years I will pay back what I actually borrowed 3 times over… how is that a good financial decision? For those on PAYE in high paid roles we can’t dodge paying it like you can 😂

I’m too scared to even look at mine! Thank god we don’t have the US Sallie Mae system where they have to make payments every month no matter what!

I’m not sure whether to pay it off or not. My salary is high, and I pay around 400 pounds so I am paying it off. If I left it after the 30 years I would end up paying around £20,000 in interest compared to paying off the £35,000 I have left.

I guess if you pay yourself you can adjust your “income” to be below the threshold or not too much above it? But if you’re someone who earns a good wage then you will be paying a lot per month. It would be interesting to hear what you would do then!

Hi Mia, just curious if the threshold of your PAYE to not pay back student debt is enough to sustain living in London ? Asking as a fellow business owner also moving to London soon 🦋

This all makes sense, for under grad loan, however my daughter also has £12k post grad loan, so repays twice. We understand that she’ll probably never pay off the UG, but at £100 per month the PG will be paid and grow with interest. Should she focus on clearing this?
