@iseeu_nurse: Why would an ICU nurse be placing a helmet on their critically ill patient? This video covers Esophageal balloon tamponade tubes and nursing considerations for patients who have them. Fun fact: The unit scavenger hunt at my very first critical care unit had "Find the helmet" on it. 🪖 Anyways, the helmets used in this situation are, of course, related to esophageal balloon tamponade devices/tubes. These types of devices are used to *hopefully* stop a life-threatening esophageal/gastric bleed. When you see someone busting out the helmet, or these tubes, you know 💩 is going down. Yes, I have had a few pts with this type of tube in our ICU. Our Hosp used a football helmet with small wt for traction. Pts were always intubated and paralyzed to prevent any tube movement. You don’t forget these pt’s EVER!! 😳
