@ibolyav: Gormanston Castle in County Meath, Ireland, is renowned for its historic "Yew Walk" or "Yew Tunnel," a,,300-year-old tunnel formed by yew trees known as The Cloisters. Located on the grounds of Gormanston College, this, horticultural,l landmark was reportedly planted in the late 17th century by Lord Gormanstown, with legends suggesting it was intended to persuade his daughter not to become a nun. A prominent, dense, and ancient tunnel of yew trees. Planted around the time of the restoration of Charles II (post-1660) by the 7th Viscount Gormanston. The trees are part of a wider, mature landscape, including "Cromwell's Avenue" on the grounds. Gormanston Castle was, from the 14th century to the 1950s, the seat of the Preston family, who managed to hold on to their estate lands through the centuries despite being staunch Catholics. The head of the family is known as Viscount Gormanston, premier Viscount of Ireland. #Ireland #castle #History

We could have this everywhere. Instead, we have plastic siding & vinyl lives. 😭

part of me wants to walk through this so bad, another part can only think about how many spiders/bugs would probably be directly above my head

As a kid, I had bushes in my yard that I cleared the center out of so I could hide & play. Little me would have been so stoked to see a big version.

the fact that things like this still exist in a world where everything is falling apart and is made to all look esthetic, it is truly a wonder. absolutely breathtaking

I went to school there. back when the whole grounds were still owned by the school. it was amazing. we had a swing out in the woods beside the bridge and went swimming in the river despite having a swimming pool. good times

Ohhhh. I heard my Grandma squeal with delight. She loved gardens with secrets. She herself had a maze of paths in her yard.
