Trekking pole tents also have the disadvantage of needing a soft enough soil underneath for the poles to stick and stay in place. If one is planning to sleep in mountainous terrain, where rocky surfaces are common, a trekking pole tent should be out of the picture.

I have a 3x3 tarp and I use my poles to make a tent but I have the cloud peak 2 and the oex coyote all great items in their own wright.
