One thing people really overlook about Delena, and honestly one of the main reasons I love them so much, is that whether they were together or not, Elena was always there for Damon in the end. No matter what he did or how much he got on her nerves, she never completely gave up on him. She saw the good in him when a lot of people didn’t even bother trying to. I also think Damon really admired how kind and caring Elena was. She had such a big heart, and he needed someone like that in his life someone who could see past his flaws and still believe he could be better.
