@thehilariouswings: The guinea fowl is one of the few bird species that practices mass laying in a communal nest: several females lay their eggs in one spot, sometimes over 50–100 eggs. Only one hen then incubates them, and it is not uncommon for her to brood other birds' eggs while her own remain unheated. They build their nests directly on the ground, under rocks and roots, without any lining. The shell of a guinea fowl egg is about three times thicker than a chicken's and is nearly unbreakable. In Africa, guinea fowl are used as watchdogs—when a predator appears, they raise such a racket that farmers wake up even at night.
